When I drag music papers from iTunes (desktop) top top a associated iPhone, countless times the papers just don"t copy to the iphone - the tracks show up in the perform on iPhone, albeit grey and also the most-left obelisk is a dotted circle v a come me unknown definition (it might be a development bar really...).

You are watching: What does the dashed circle mean in itunes

iTunes 12.0.1.26 (OS X Yosemite)

You have the right to see several of the files copied, while rather did not, in the screenshot:

The dotted circles space in the left-most column.

I"ll perform some things to ascendancy out:

Not utilizing iTunes Match.I do have enough space on the iPhone. It"s a brand-new iPhone 6 add to 128 GB, with around 60 GB free space.I do have actually "Manually control music and also videos" selected.I can copy some files, some papers just won"t copy. Ignore every the remainder of this crap, all ns did was change the surname of one of the songs the wasn"t syncing. After i did that i hit sync and also they all began syncing. Expect this works for whoever reads.

I"ve it was observed this worry with several iPod Touch gadgets (one V1, one V4). It only started for me as soon as I relocated my music documents from my key PC HDD come a Wi-Fi linked NAS.

My workarounds room as follows:

I don"t copy more than one album at a time (manually control music).I wait because that the ahead copy to complete before starting a new one.

When ns do obtain items v the grey circle, i sync the device. At the finish of the sync process, iTunes will begin copying the lacking items come the iDevice. It may take numerous syncs to resolve the issue, however it should eventually get her items over.

You guys. I resolved this. I don"t know if this is the best or only means to solve this problem yet it worked for me. It took forever, however it worked.

Delete every one of the songs of her iPod/iPhone that have the tiny circle.

Drag them back onto her device, one by one.

It"s the only way it worked for me! If ns tried to traction a bunch of lock it never ever worked.

I hope this help someone!

I think this was due to my files have a heart shape in the filename. Ns renamed to eliminate it, re-added to mine library and on next sync the worked. It may be as simple as illegal characters. Keolistravelservices.coms much vaunted user interface gives zero clue to the cause, leaving the user come guess. A simple mouseover the dotted circle v the concern revealed together a tooltip would have got rid of all this frustration.

What I do is delete the album and include it again. If a track isn"t on there ns manually delete that and add it earlier in. The is a longer procedure but much more efficient.

I had this very same problem. I spent a the majority of time reading other solutions and playing around. I even thought about wiping my phone"s content and beginning over.

In my instance I think it was since I had actually purchased an iTunes pre-release album, downloaded those tracks, and also then as soon as the album was ultimately released I finished up having duplicate (purchased) tracks.

Although I doubt there are other means to end up with the very same issue, anyone reading this i would consider two things. First, look because that duplicate tracks especially from iCloud, and also remove the dupes. Here are instructions native keolistravelservices.com: https://support.keolistravelservices.com.com/en-us/HT201323

That wasn"t all though, ns then had actually to nuke the music on my phone and re-sync everything. This was rather involved:

Connect phone come iTunesSelect Music under SettingsTurn turn off Sync MusicClick SyncObserve the there was still a lot of room being provided by (now unsynced) musicDisconnect phone and manually deleting what was left on the phone: setups -> basic -> warehouse & iCloud consumption -> manage Storage -> Music -> edit / all Songs -> DeleteReconnect phone come iTunesGo ago to Music under SettingsChoose "Sync Music" (selected playlists, artists, albums, and also genres), and also re-select the music I want syncedClick Sync then Done

I expect this helps.
