You are watching: Magneto gap for briggs stratton engine

I"ve got a B & S 10A902-2072 lawn mower, freshly pulled the magneto turn off ... Yes, ns know, not a an excellent idea - ns didn"t think the gap would be too crucial. But that won"t start now, it started OK before dismantling.Anyone recognize what the void from the magneto armature to the rotor must be on these machines?I"ve looked in ~ the components list and owners manual from www.briggsandstratton.com, naught to assist there.tia, Peter
put the coil on, gain the bolts just tight enough so you deserve to still slip it closer to the flywheel (turning the flywheel therefore the magnets room away provides things easier) take a dollar bill, on slide it between the coil and the flywheel, till it slides out v a small force, but doesn"t tear, climate spin the flywheel through hand, to make sure it doesn"t rub until you get it right. Then tighten the one bolt that doesn"t hold the windvane top top tight, the various other one just tight sufficient to not make the vane stick.
The space should it is in .006 to .010" at the magnets.I collection the magneto back and snug it up. Then revolve the flywheel so the magnets are directly listed below the coil, and also put a .010 feeler gage in between the magneto legs and the magnets. Loosen up the magneto bolts to enable the magnets to traction it under onto the flywheel through the feeler gage between them. Tighten up the magneto bolts, then pull the feeler gage the end by rotating the flywheel.
thanks guys (and Tranny ~ above lawnserviceforum.com), it functioned a charm. It"s amazing how much grief you can put these little engines through and they still store chugging along. I simply mowed the prior lawn - about a metre high, mostly weeds - partly since the an equipment was to adjust up, partly because I was placing it off - and it go a charm.Cut the end midway and also I had actually to let it cool down, my concept is the the air filter bolt is loose, where it threads into the carbohydrate is stripped, therefore too lot air is getting in, as well lean a mix, running to hot, having to take division occasionally. The next job is to uncover a slightly oversized bolt for the air filter. Thanks again for her advice, Peter
so the bolt going into the carb is stripped, the holds the wait filter on? wouldn"t operation it lengthy without solving that first. Dirt getting in isn"t good. She"ll still last you a quite little bit more....... Briggs have the right to take punishment, and keep going..... Usage nothing but briggs
